One of my favorite things to do is read. I love to do it independently, with my children, and I absolutely love teaching it. There is nothing better than the moment that "the code" clicks for a student. In recent years, I have dedicated my work and focus to understanding how to teach students how to master the code. In a district that is largely comprised of Language Learners, teaching a student how to speak in a new language, in addition to learning how to read in that language provides many challenges.
This is the heart of my driving question. How can we support our language learners with their language gap, AND teach them how to read?
