Dearborn Review Audience: She targeted teachers providing resources to increase student engagement in reading. On the Learn more page, she wanted to "teach other teachers" about the technology out there to support engagement. As I reviewed her capstone, I couldn't help but wonder if she could have included parents as a sub-audience. As a parent I would love to be able to set up these resources for my children, especially during summer. On the Inspiration page I really liked how she segmented out here different perspectives, that is very helpful to me as a teacher. That said, I wonder if she could have made it more teacher specific--here is the "why" for this capstone. Highlight the data, the need of these resources a bit more. Gottfried Review Audience: She targeted teachers providing rationale and resources for using blogging, a powerful tool for engagement. I really enjoyed seeing how she wove in here action research, and then all the assignments we had in this program. She made the instructional design portion of this program relevant and utilized it to provide rationale for why that is so important to look at before hand. Her audience is teachers and she didn't explicitly call that out on too many pages, with the exception of the home page and then on the Inspiration page. On the Inspiration page she talks about how she received some push back on her capstone from Science and Math teachers and provided some resources to support those discussions. I believe she could have woven through mention of the audience, the importance of the message and what that means for teachers more throughout. Vale Review Audience: This capstone is not quite as clear to me as to who her audience was. Obviously it is teachers, appealing to them about creating a classroom community that is safe for all students. That said, she never explicitly calls out "Here are some resources for you..." She never clearly states anywhere within her site pages who this research and resources are benefiting. And for that matter, I am not sure what I would get our of her resources-I found it very generic and as a classroom teacher I am not sure what I would do with this. I guess I am in a unique role right now, where my students are the teachers and in being focused on that mindset I am constantly thinking "what can I do with this tomorrow?"
Assignment Ah-has! I loved this assignment, it gave me permission to spend some time going deeper into other examples of Capstone projects. It gave me some great ideas as to what I want to include and don't want to include. But, most importantly it allowed me to focus on my audience and what they need and to make sure I am intentional in remembering them on every page and with every step of the design process. Leveraging Baggio, Dervin, and Clark as we think about visual impact and instructional design.
